Magento 2.4.6 is out of standard support. What now?

Standard support for Magento 2.4.6 ended on 11 August 2026. What that means for your store, what Adobe still covers, and how to plan the upgrade to 2.4.8 or 2.4.9.

On 11 August 2026, Magento 2.4.6 left standard support. Stores on 2.4.5 and 2.4.4 were already past theirs. If your store runs one of these versions, this is what changed and what to do about it.

The dates

  • 2.4.4: standard support ended on 12 April 2025.
  • 2.4.5: standard support ended on 12 August 2025.
  • 2.4.6: standard support ended on 11 August 2026.
  • 2.4.7: supported until 31 May 2027.
  • 2.4.8: supported until 31 May 2028.
  • 2.4.9: released on 12 May 2026, supported until 31 May 2029.

What still covers you, and what does not

Adobe Commerce customers on 2.4.6 get one year of extended support, until 31 August 2027, with quality and security patches for the core. After that, Adobe describes a one-time security-only period for 2.4.4, 2.4.5 and 2.4.6: limited, isolated security fixes and no quality fixes, ending on 31 May 2027 for 2.4.4 and 2.4.5 and on 31 May 2028 for 2.4.6.

Those terms are written for Adobe Commerce. On Magento Open Source, do not assume they apply: plan as if the patches have stopped.

Why waiting costs more

  • Every month on an old version widens the gap to the current release: more modules to update, more theme code to touch.
  • Payment and shipping extensions drop old versions first. A checkout that breaks after a provider update is the expensive kind of emergency.
  • Card-payment rules (PCI DSS) expect security patches to be installed promptly. That is hard on a version that no longer gets them.
A planned upgrade is a project. A forced one is an emergency.

How we run an upgrade

  1. 01Audit: versions, modules, theme, custom code and hosting, with a list of what will break.
  2. 02A fixed price, in writing, before any work starts.
  3. 03The upgrade on a copy of the store: core first, then modules and theme, then tests on checkout, payments, emails and indexers.
  4. 04Go-live at a quiet hour, with a note of what changed and a way back.

Which version to aim for

For most stores, 2.4.8 or 2.4.9: they are supported until 2028 and 2029. If the theme needs work anyway, it is also the right moment to look at Hyvä.
